The PortDance SWING Bootie feels much closer to a soft dance slipper than a traditional practice shoe. Lightweight, breathable and exceptionally flexible, it is designed for dancers who want freedom through the foot while keeping the smooth floor response of a proper suede dance sole.
PortDance SWING Personality
Fluid • Lightweight • Flexible • Close-to-the-Floor
SWING is one of the least structured practice shoes in the collection. The soft upper, flat profile and highly flexible construction create a relaxed, almost sock-like feel that particularly suits dancers who prefer to feel connected to both their foot and the floor.
PortDance SWING West Coast Swing Booties – Design & Performance
The combination of soft suede and breathable technical mesh gives SWING its distinctive character. Suede provides gentle structure around the front of the foot, while the open mesh panels reduce weight and allow considerably more airflow than a conventional closed practice shoe.
Underneath is a full suede dance sole, giving the controlled glide needed for spins, pivots and travelling movement on indoor dance floors. Unlike a split-sole trainer, the suede runs continuously beneath the foot, creating a smooth and consistent floor response.
What really stands out is the shoe's exceptional flexibility. The entire construction can fold almost completely onto itself, allowing the foot to articulate naturally rather than working against a rigid sole or upper.
A rear zip keeps the silhouette clean and makes the bootie easy to put on, while the higher mesh section wraps gently around the ankle without the bulk of a traditional dance boot. Inside, a removable cushioned insole adds comfort and also gives dancers the option to adjust the internal set-up or accommodate their own orthotic where suitable.

The Dance World Practice Shoe DNA compares the defining characteristics of every practice shoe. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, stability, flexibility, cushioning and floor feel so dancers can find the shoe that best suits their training and dancing.
Dance World Notes
Remarkably flexible. This is one of those shoes you can almost fold into your dance bag.
Much lighter than it looks. The mesh keeps the ankle coverage airy rather than heavy.
Excellent floor connection. A lovely option for dancers who dislike thick trainer-style soles.
The removable insole is useful. Especially if you like to personalise your cushioning.
Dance World Tip
Choose SWING if you want freedom and floor connection rather than structure. It is particularly interesting for West Coast Swing because the flat profile, flexible construction and suede sole allow smooth weight transfers, anchors and turns without the bulk of a conventional dance trainer.
If you prefer substantial arch structure or a more supportive trainer feel, we would look towards one of our more structured dance sneakers instead.
